New PC Build Components OK?

#1

Sorry for the somewhat vague title.

Time for me to build a new machine to upgrade from my older
Core 2 Duo quad machine.

I plan to use it for mostly CG modeling and rendering with Maya, Lightwave, messiah aps.
I am concerned that if I move into trying to use Mari that this machine is somewhat capable.

I will also use the machine for audio recording with something like Cubase but my primary focus would be for the CG aps.

I am not too tech savy on whether the memory I’ve chosen and the graphics card are suitable for what I want for this build. Can anyone please comment on whether these basic core components will serve my purposes?

I do not require absolute blistering cutting edge performance but figured that the processor is not a bad investment for this build. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I personnaly would want to put a bit more into a better video card that is “not” a 6xx series, and move into the 7xx series…

something like:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932

it has a little less vram, but better bandwidth, still pcie 3.0, more cuda cores and a tad higher clock… for only 30$ more, I personally believe it to be a better card. (the cooler on it is ACX style which has in my opinion been a better method for cooling).

However, make note of the power requirements for your PSU and you’ll need to choose a decent CPU cooler.

other than that, I think the components are fine.
