New Compositing Direction

#1

Hi peeps

Having spent time at Animation Mentor and then trying to get work as an animator in the UK I have found it extremely difficult. I have worked on a couple of unpaid projects but that don’t pay the bills

So I thought I might try my hand at compositing - cannot hurt can it? But I am mixed up over which compositing tool to use. I did a half day course on Shake but that is being faded out and I have recently spent time dabbling with After Effects. Now I am tempted by Nuke.

Which package would you exeperienced users recommend?

Unfortunately we can’t really comment on “which app” sort of questions, as it leads to arguements so this thread will more than likely be locked, especially in this forum where the obvious answer is going to be after effects.

Having used both Nuke and After Effects i’d say both have their strengths and weaknesses, but then you would also have to compare them to others such as Fusion, Flame, Combustion etc etc. You are likely to find work with many of them as right now they are all popular across a wide range of broadcast and film studios. There is a leaning towards node-based compositors in the film world, but After Effects also enjoys a healthy base across many areas of the industry.

Don’t necessarily give up on Shake either. Just because it is discontinued doesn’t mean it isn’t relevent, nor does it mean the compositing skills won’t transfer to other applications.

sorry, no what app should I use threads(especially not in the AE forum which is going to be obviously bias  ). Use the search, there are tons of these threads. Download and try the demos.
