Negative lights are back in v 10.5

#1

Those dark lights are flirting again. They appeared some time in v9.5 and then went. I just noticed that in v10.5c they are back. If you don’t know what they are for, they are good for making corners of rooms etc darker. They are a valuable asset for those who like playing with the art of lighting scenes moodily or realisticaly.

Where do you find them or how do you apply them? Are they in the pws? Maybe properties panel?

Thanks-

Just use a negative value on the light and it will start sucking photons.

#4

So instead os having something like 70% have it at -70%?

#5

Exactly.

I think Hash removes your favorite features from time to time just to make sure you don’t take them for granted . . .

Good to hear that blackholes are back.

Here speaks a man who knows a thing or two about this stuff! :wavey:

Oh, by the way, whilst your here, are there any good resources for how to use them? I only got to play with them for three updates or so.

Yeah, now how about bringing back the ray traced area shadows…

Render as lines working okay for everyone?

But I’m glad to hear that negative lights are back. I’d never had the right versions to use them, apparently…or just assumed they weren’t there after trying the first time.

OOOh, What are those? How are they different to making a light big and using lots of samples?
