Negative frames in the timeline

#1

Hi,
I’m pretty new to Fusion 5 and I have a quick question about adding frames to the timeline. I have rendered out a number of frames from Maya which run from -99 to 75. Due to the negative frames when I bring it into Fusion I can scroll through the frames -99 to 0, if I have “Reverse” ticked. Frame 0 is then static from frames 0 to 75, which means I can’t view frames 0 to 75.

Is it possible to use negative frames or will I have to rename the files 1 to 176?

Thanks.

Hmyeah, Fusion is a bit iffy when it comes to negative frames. If it isn’t too much hassle, best to rename them.

That said, it is possible to use negative frames. Fusion will just see them as different sequences.

To load your sequence into one loader, do the following:

  • add a loader to your comp, select the frame sequence and set it to reverse (as you have done).
  • go to Clip List tab in loader and check “Enable Clip List”.
  • move the time slider to a point where a positive value image would be.
  • go into the file requester again and turn off “Gather Sequences” (at the bottom)
  • select one of the positive frames.

This will load the positive frames after the negative ones and the loader will at that point not be set to negative. This should give you your entire sequence.

Basically Fusion sees the minus sign as a different character in the filename as opposed to it being part of the numbers. If it wouldn’t, you would get into trouble every time you would use something like Frame-#### as your file name template.

Hope that explains it,

Pieter.

Cheers for the bullet point explanation, it was clear to run through and worked a treat. Thanks.
