Need some pointers. Still learning!

I was thinking of making a gift for a friend similar to this ring here. The thing I never know how to start and this specific piece is pretty complex and intricate (at least in my eyes)
If anyone has any tips, tutorials, or even a good starting off point it would be appreciated!
I have some knowledge and experience in Zbrush, Maya, and Autodesk Fusion.

Think of it as the holes are just where a polygon was and they inset and extruded to make the holes, it’s not as complex from that standpoint.

use Zbrush Live Booleans

I use blender so this may not apply. but I’d model the ring without the holes and just use a wireframe modifier. The wire frame will turn all your edges to mesh and your faces will disappear. the only thing you will need to be careful of is your topography.

After I posted this I spent a little time wrapping my head around it and came to a similar solution suggested with the boolean “cuts”
I just modeled out the head, copied and scaled it down to make it “hollow” cut through it with a cylinder for the finger hole and then used various polygonal pieces to cut into the face.

This looks amazing! I think this is a good present and I think I would also give it to my friend. Unfortunately, I am a student and the last money I have spent on the essays from https://assignmentman.co.uk/power-point-presentation/ and I don’t complain about it. This is literally the most important thing for me now.

Very good idea? What was the result?
