Need some help with MR rendering in Maya

Hi!

This is my first post here at CGsociety and I hope I’m posting correctly.
First of all, english is not my first language so I apologize for spelling errors etc.

So, I have been working on a scene in Maya and I’m trying to render it out but I am running into issues.
First of I have these black dots where the shadow should be and I dont know what to do to get rid of them.
Secondly I’m trying to use my lamps as light source but how would I make them glow like a real lamp?

Shadows will come in line as your lights improve, but you want to be using only raytraced shadows at this stage of the game, and for realism. Raytraced shadows let you get much softer shadows, set on a per-light basis, but they take a little longer to render.
