Need Overview of Fluid Simulation

Trying to get into fluids, and want to understand the current technology, software, and methods used. I’m finding bits and pieces, SPH and grid based sims, realflow, Fume, maya, and complex mathmatical formulas on Wiki, but still fuzzy on on the overall picture and how all these things relate to each other. Does anyone know where I can find a nice overview and explanation of the current fluid situation? Concise summary of how these things work and the concpets involved?
