Need help with mentalray Material!

Hey guys,

So I’m trying to get this noisy metal like material, and I’m kind of stuck on where/how to get that noise. Also there are just so many options in modifying a material that I don’t know how to get it looking like the sample. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I’m using a mia_material_x for the material.

It’s kinda hard to tell with reference that size, do you think the metal has flakes in it? Or is it actually bumpy?

You could try using the carpaint shader instead, using the Flakes property.

It’s definitely a smooth metal so a bump wouldn’t work… but Flakes sound like a good idea; I’ll look into it :]
