Try drawing it outline, then shade it and start thinking of the dimensions in this profile shot. No matter how you render it (you can get pretty darn close to that look) it still has to have some kind of dimension to work well in 3D. Think of all of the Bugs Bunny turnarounds that you’ve probably seen with the lines that go across to keep the sizes and spacing correct.
I would definately do some turn around sketches… put a piece of paper over this image and try and draw out the face from the front with the same eye, nose, forehead height. You could also just start roughing in a side view mesh and use a mirroring of some sort as you pull the vertices away from center. This process doesn’t work well for me because I can’t model without a guide, if it’s a drawing or a diagram I have to have a plan, but I’ve seen some guys who do well this way.
If you’ve got some really strong 3D skill those eyes could do some really strange things… in a good way!
