Need advice on video card upgrade, please.

Hey guys,

Would a new Quadro K2200be a good upgrade for my current Evga GTX660?

The K2200 actually has less Cuda cores, I’m not sure but I think that may be an important factor? My budget is around $450 to $500 at this time.

I will be using it for 3D Max 2015/Mudbox 2015/Mental Ray.

I occasionally play some games like Borderlands or Deus Ex as well.

My system specs are:
Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz - 32GB Ram
Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1

Thank you!
Daf

What problem are you having with the 660? That low end quadro won’t be any faster.

Hi, thanks, yes a little more research shows that the 660 is the better card. I’m not having any issues with the 660 other than a tiny bit of viewport lag with heavy scenes. I thought the quadros were more “3d” than the Geforce cards and was thinking about making the swap. I guess that may be true with the upper end Quadros? I think now that GTX 770 may be a good upgrade or just keeping the 660.

Thanks!

Quadro are mostly use in workstation for professional application where precision is worth more than raw speed. I’m not saying that they are less powerful, just that their architecture and drivers are optimised for accurate calculation, often with the help of ECC memory.

What you should do is make sure that your application are CUDA enabled and that you are using the latest drivers for your card. If you want to upgrade, getting one with more video ram will help you in more complex scene.
