nCloth stretching too much

#1

So me and my team made a ncloth dress with a dynamic constraint on it to the skinned version underneath. I used a gradient to make the top stick to the body while the cloth would move like a skirt. My problem is the dress won’t get back even close to the shape it originally was. My character is scaled down to .075 so I’ve adjusted the settings as best I could to it but to no avail. Can anyone help me??

Unfortunately with cloth there are many factors and if you have any one of them very wrong then nothing works like it should.

But assuming you have not strayed too far from default settings, you would usually want to play with the nucleus sub-steps and the cloth stretch resistance. Typically I would set stretch resistance to 10x the sub steps if I dont want much stretch. eg sub steps = 10, stretch resistance=100.

However nucleus space scale and gravity are just as important. If you are working in mayas default cm units and you model to real world 1:1 scale, then gravity is 9.8 and space scale should be 0.01

But it sounds like your cloth is very small. How many units across is your cloth when the model is scaled to 0.075 ? In your case I’m guessing you should leave space scale set to 1 or possibly higher.

Feel free to post an example for more specific advice.

So we realized the problem was stickiness was turned on. It automatically inputs 2, turning it to 0 fixed it.

I think you’ll find that stickiness defaults to 0, but as long as you figured it out, I suppose that doesnt matter.
