nCLoth for slow-mo shot

Hi everybody!

This thread is somehow the follow up of this one http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=86&t=1123179 so you could check it out if you want.

I’m working in trying to mimiking the shot below, with the slow-mo feel to it. As the thread shared above says we are using nCloth, but it is somehow weird to set it for a slow mo shot.

The scene is modeled in cm, and the nucleus space scale is set accordingly (to 0.01), the cache is set to eveluate every .25 frames aswell as the rendering (in the By Frame setting), even thoug, the final render is not that slow and the leaf vibrates a lot and it is the same setup Duncan suggested.

Smaller steps in the rendering and the cache somehow makes it worst.

What you guys suggest for this scenario?

maybe reducing time scale in the nucleus node (e.g from 1 to 0.5) will help you achieve the slow-mo effect. I’ve used it a couple times and the results are acceptable.

Slow mo is actually easier to compute(the solver does not need to iterate as much)… the time scale should work. Alternately you could lower the effect of all forces, stretch/bend, lift/drag and gravity. (but time scale should have the same effect)

In some cases if it is extremely slow motion caching at a faster rate combined with playing off the cache at slower rate is more efficient. (providing the linear interpolation of the cache frames is acceptable)
