Mysterious Forest/Swamp Elf

#1

Hello there,

I’ve started this painting today, took me about 2 and a half hour to get it where it is now.
I’m not really sure what the creature/person is going to be yet, I’ll figure that out along the way.
The other random lights are going to be elfs, or lamps that they carry with them.

What do you guys think of it now?
What should I improve?

Worked on it for a bit longer now,
I still have some trouble with the main character.

What do you think of it until now?

So I’ve finished it.
Went a lot quicker than I thought it would.
I’d still appreciate the feedback you have to offer me, so I can useit for my future paintings.

What exactly is the color that she’s giving off in her glow? Is it pink or is it blue? That’s an odd contradiction you have, since the glow itself is blue and its effect on the environment is also blue, but there’s all that pink around the figure too.

Your image is highly stylized, but I don’t find the stylization logical. For example, the tree is strangely lumpy like clay, without any actual tree textures, and the same with some of the rock surfaces. There’s also a certain vagueness to some areas without any good reason to do so. You need to establish a set hierarchy of edge quality (sharp, firm, soft, lost) and texture levels, and do it logically based on distance, amount of inherent textures, or focal points.

HI lunatique,

here glow is blue and the stuff around her is indeed purplish/pink. I wanted her to pop out a bit more than she did when I used blue or white squiggles. Would it help if I’d give the squiggles themself a bit of a glow?

I thought that I had the vagueness and edges correct this time.
I can’t pay for your lessons… So please, could you point out some of the mistakes I made?

Esther
