My Urban Sketch Thread (mature content)

Other than experimentiing with some new brushes, i’m not sure what I was thinking here.

#162

that last one is cool… though once I look at it again it is more of a man wearing a wolfskin than a werewolf kinda thing.

BTW what is with everyone doing lycans atm? if you surf through the main 3d forum I think I counted at least 5 werewolfs the last month or so. But that is more general thought I had.

Like the brushes on the quicky sci fi it really feels like chalk on tinted paper. Nice!

#163

I dig the chick shooting the spiky-demons. The poses are very dynamic and exciting. I hope you keep up the one-a-day sketch vow  Great stuff!

#164

hi, nice, very bold style you have! (I especially like the pics in the beginning of your thread and/or your black&white “graphics”, you must be pretty comfortable with this kind of drawing/painting, aren´t you, nice!)
enjoyed, a.

matsman - thanks very much for the kind words. I like the interpretation of the man with wolfskin. Makes me wish i had be clever enough to deliberatly do that idea. As it stands all i had in my head was some sort of bepedal wolf man in a crouching pose.

danielh68 - thanks dude! Trying my best to stick to once a day. I need the practice!

alenah - thanks! to be honest i can’t say i’ve reached a comfort level with this style yet. There is still plenty of hair pulling going on when the image doesn’t turn out how i waant it to:)

Here’s today’s sketch. A character concept that i want to render up as vecto art…

Urrggghhh! we have just suffered through a massive heatwave her in melbourne, end of last week and over the weekend. 3 nights in a row with no power either. No more of that thanks!!
Did this sketch last nite with the air con finally on, and watched a dismal performance from Australia in the cricket as they went down to the kiwis in very low scoring game.

I love drawing dogs so as i sat there with my own two furry companions i scribbled this down. I used a ball point pen on a thick gsm paper for this. I really like the sketchy quality you get from ballpoint pen when you sketch. Unforgiving but fun.

Watched Terminator 3 on television last nite and sat there with a ball point pen and sketch pad doing some more puppy scribbles. Here’s what i came up with…

#168

Cool shit man! Love the ball point sketches, one of my fav medias for sure. I like the big eyed dawg pound style, you really control the viewer’s attention as they look from puppy eye to puppy eye lol. You’ve been very productive lately, would like to see you give that Action Dude a nice ink treatment or something?

#169

those are cute, cool and confidently stylized. love the “exclamation mark bark” your work always puts a smile on my face. awesome!

#170

Rabid1 - thanks man! Glad you like the dog sketches. For some reason i find them very relaxing and therapeutic to do. Will definitely be inking and coloring the action dude. Am actually turning him into vector art.

jpedro - thanks Jan! As always you are too kind! I have to admit i love to sketch up the dogs every now and again. Makes a nice departure from my usual monsters and guns

I watchedthe cricket last nite, so I sat there with a ball point pen and sketchpad in hand whilst I watched. I actually find i’m quite productive during the cricket. Maybe we should have the cricket on tv at work!

Did this one in my lunch break today after scribbling down the idea on a scrap piece of paper on the way to work. Its pretty nerdy humour, but i guess thats me in a nutshell…

#174

haha… you are addicted once again to the old paper and ballpoint. All thanks to a power shortage… the old ways are great!

Love the last two! you got me laughing with the Frisbee and the second one is pretty funny too.
Not too sure about the first few dog scribblings other than great technique and obviously you had fun making them. Nice to see you are going the cartoon way with the newer ones. Those have a point to the picture other than just being good stuff.

Awaiting more!

Thanks Matsman!

Yeah I find as I do more of the dog sketches I am incorporating more dog humour into them. I agree it makes more of a point to the image as well. Will try and maintain this humour as I continue.

Here’s the latest:

Observing my dog, Sam marking his turf this morning got me thinking about the similarities between dogs and grafitti artists. Both are territorial and mark their territory. Does this mean if you believe in reincarnation that if you are a grafitti artist you will come back as a dog? Or is it vice versa?

#176

Here’s a couple more, including some vector art colored up in illustrator…

#177

another illustrator vector…

No matter big or small, fat or skinny, tall or short, (alien or earthling) it seems that dogs love nothing more than their morning walk. I drew this, this morning as i was car pooled into work. Gave me some good sketch time…

#179

That last one is great, very universal and funny

I was loosing this thread !
I honestly come from a completely different background in term of style and approach to art but you own a SO strong and well defined personality that is impossible to do not appreciate your artworks.
