My Urban Sketch Thread (mature content)

#61

Ryan - here’s a couple of progressives for characters i did a fair while ago that give you a rough idea as to how i work. I usually lock in a layer of flat color below my linework to get started and then work from there.

although the process can vary depending on the style i am employing

Here’s my latest 30 minute sketch.

Keeps getting better each post! That futuristic soldier is crazy, did you draw that straight from your head or use refrence or what?

#64

Thanks Exstatic1!
The soldier concept was from my wierd and unusual imagination. No ref used but in hindsight it may have helped!

Ryan- I’ve added a storyboard now as previously requested. This is some storyboard stuff i did for one of my company’s tv commercials. The product was a toy i designed called skanmaster (have samples in my portfolio if you’re interested). These sbs panels were what i did before text was laid in.

Love your work Redfrog
From the outside looks like you’ve got the best job in the world!

#66

Just out of curiosity, how did you come up with your forum name, redfrog? It reminds me of those red lollies in the shapes of frogs you can still get for 5 cents each - I love those things!

#67

Tymotzues - My job is fantastic and very rewarding! As long as you don’t mind 12 hour days and working at top speed. Its a very high pressure job with a lot on the go at one time but at the end of the day when you see the toys you’ve designed on the retail shelf there’s no greater fulfilment!!!

Greenham - Its a real long story and my girlfriend would probably tell it better. It sort of condenses down to me being symbolised as a frog somehow (can’t even remember why?) the color of my hair, and a serious love for those redfrog lollies! Its really scary how things come about when you think about it!

#68

How much of the toys do you actually have to design? I would imagine the micro-chip side of things would be left to someone else, but do you just come up with a concept and a design for some of the characters and then a team of people make it happen?

Here’s my latest 30 minute morning sketch. The topic for this one was “Under the Sea”

#71

Are some of your works In america? if so , what kind of products would i see at your everyday walmart or toy stoy and say hey! i talked to that guy who helped create that!

( i heard of a very deragative joke refering to green ham , but its pretty bad :stuck_out_tongue: )

#72

Hahaha! Man! Your pictures are fantastic! I’m a great fan of your style ;] Wonderful stuff!

#73

Thanks folks!

Been trying to learn to draw girl characters at the moment as i haven’t had a lot of practice drawing girls. Sat down watching the football last nite and started trying a bit of practice at drawing girls.

#74

I really like this, you’ve got a nice style. One thing does bother me, though, and that’s the lips. The lower lip is just a bit too big sometimes and it makes the girls look whiny and annoying. It bothers me a bit. Apart from that I think you did a good job here… and I love that rabbit

Good work, especially when you don’t even draw girls that often, you’ve got a nice consistent style. (perhaps a bit too consistent though, their faces kinda all look the same now)

#75

Nah, I say leave the lips as they are. A lot of your characters are petulant anyway. I wish I could belt out that quantity of work during the course of a football game.

#76

Couple more practice sketchs…

Will try a bit more facial variation next so they don’t all look similar.

Thanks folks!

This is a digital prototype layout for a piece i plan to do on cnavas. Really enjoy creating brushes that will help me replicate paint splatter and give that diluted acrylic effect.
This is kinda a loose interpretation of the white rabbit with a bit of an urban graf take to it.
Hope you like it!

#78

First of all: Nice work so far.

Your character have recognizability value. I however prefer the rabbits.

The girls, for me, seem to be immature. Which i dont like at all. Well i guess thats just my personal taste and doesn’t has to do much with your ability of drawing.

Just wanted to say that.

Cenote

I like your last work.
It’s a very cool illustration, with the mascot, I find it very interesting.
