My sitting boy

#1

I’m not entirely sure how this site works I’m kinda new here. so I’m gonna get started with this little doodle I did of my sitting boy.
I do, however, like the feedback that this site gets regarding critique and would very much appreciate some feedback oh my artwork below
the main point of my artwork is to sort of combine realistic anatomy with exaggerated anatomy, if that’s even possible.
you can also see this image on my deviantart page: here

I like the stylization–it’s kind of unique–not quite anime, not quite European–kind of a mixture.

The composition–what was your reason for chopping off his toes and pushing his butt and his hair so close to the borders? You should always have a compelling reason for the way you compose your image.

Because the style of this image doesn’t require elaborate or realistic lighting/values or colors, I can’t really comment on those, but I think this image would read more coherently if you gave him a cast shadow so he’s more solidly sitting on a surface.

The folds/wrinkles on his clothing could use more work. Really study references and real life–don’t guess or try to fake anything. Analyze the main three interrelated elements of fabric folds/wrinkels–they are the stress points, compression points, and loose flabs. Loose flabs are always originated from stress and compression points, and often connect them. Anything that protrudes out is a stress point (elbow, knee, breasts, shoulder, etc), and anything that gets squashed together is a compression point (armpits, behind the knees, bend of the waist, etc). Also pay attention to the readability of flaps such as the collar or lapels–they need to read like flat, thin pieces of fabric, folded exactly right.
