hi friends just wanted to share this…

thanks in advance for watching.

Hey, good job.

Can you tell a little bit more about achieving this result, please?

#3

thanks a lot and happy to have reply after 33 views…

this work is done by scriptJob command.
on selecting every controller, i have calculated the distance between the selected controller and all the cube. The nearest 9 cubes are parented to the selected controller.
On selecting every new controller, childs of all the controller are parented back to a temp_group, and the first process starts again.

hope it helps you…

Nice idea.
While watching the video I thought you should add that rotation tweak (set to nearest multiple of 90 deq) to a script job also.

ya i thought of it…but still did not try it…
well do u have any idea about it??

#6

this type of rig can not be reviewed until one tried it… Seen a few that looks good only to break after trying it.

And no, I do not wish you to send my your script. Good job BTW. Looks great.

#7

Man that looks pretty cool. Have you tried messing with it for like 20 rotations to see if it breaks or something?

Either way, really cool. I tried it once. Became a hell day of constraints for me instead. I did it more like a hand switch using constraints. Couldn’t even make minor tweaks easily.

Thanks for the replies…
the best way i believe to do it is with mel scripts…
and ya, even after 100 rotations it does not break.
even i have made scripts to snap the rotations to 5 degree (or any u want)…but not updated till now on youtube.

 If you are interested you can check my attempt with making a rubik cube when I tried to help a guy on this forum. It involved not only rotating the sides but also animatiing of splitting the small cubes starting from a one solid cube.

it was really good and really nice technique to animate the history. well i have done number of times in my other rigs, but never even thought to apply in rubiks cube.
