My first soldier model

#1

Hi all I’m new to 3DS MAX (about 3months in) learning it as I go. I used milkshape3d back in the day when I was 15 but hadn’t really done anymore than 10-15 models in that time period since then.

I’ve always wanted to get around to creating a human/organic model of some description. so I followed some tuts and came up with this:

Basically what I’m looking is critique to improve on it as I’m looking to fire it into a low poly game like Deus Ex. I know his thumbs are abit off but my main concerns are his chest, buttocks and shoulders?

post wire frames of it too. it looks good!

Hey thanks  appreciate it!

looks good. but you could reduce some loops in the torso area and put two or 3 more on the buttocks area. cause when you make your character kick or bend the leg upwards you will need more edges on that area to keep the volume. and most importantly, add more edges to the forearms cause you will have to use twist bones in order to avoid the ‘candy wrap’ effect that will occur when character twist the hand to make palms facing you or up. and if i were u, i will broad the shoulders a tiny bit.

Hi. No problem ill sort these issues. Didn’t know the candy wrap issue existed so thanks! I guess I’ll learn all these things in due time, never animated before so its nice to iron these issues out before then.

Things to do: Remove some torso loops
Add more edges to forearm (and also bicep/triceps?)
Add some loops to buttocks
Rearrange shoulder vertices
