Hey all

This is my first draft of my motion capture show reel,

Any crits would be helpful, which bits to take out anythiong else I need to include.

Thinking of taking the argument scene out, an does it need jazzing up or is the plain renders with just chars in ok?

Cheers for any help

The main problem with your reel is that nobody can see what you’ve actually done. If you’re going to present mocap on a reel, it’s always a good idea to show a before and after so people can see the original data and then see how you’ve edited that data to make it better, or fit a particular scene.

Thanks for the feedback

Do you mean something along these lines then ?

Kind of but not really.

When you’re an animator working with mocap it’s your job to build upon the mocap to clean it up and make it better. This can mean blending clips together but also making it work better for that scene by adjusting certain poses and motions. So the aim of your reel is to really show off how you’ve improved the mocap from the original data. At the moment it looks like you’ve got motion data and put it on a model but the hands aren’t animated and the feet slip around a little bit with no weight. They’re the kind of things that I would be trying to show on my reel.

I’d be interested to hear from other people for their opinions as well though because I’ve worked with mocap on a couple of projects but it’s certainly not my main area.

Hope it helps though

I watched dozens of show reels and this looks…how do I put it…Semi-finished. In your show reels you suppose to have finished work with textures, lighting etc.Instead you only got models moving around on planes. I might be wrong because this reel does show your ability to animate a model and this is pretty much all you want if you are applying for an animators job only. But if you want to work somewhere where you need to be able to do most of the things by yourself (texturing, modeling, lighting, dynamics, etc), you going to have to improve everything I just watched and add more life to it.
