My First Matte Painting (WIP)

Well here it is, really isnt much, I just have the basic landscape layed out. I feel as though it is lacking excitment or an interesting subject. What could I add in to give this painting “life” At the moment it is just a boring landscape. I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks.

Well it’s pretty good work, considering I can’t see any seams or distortions!

Since the sky takes up so much of the composition, one thing you could do to make it more interesting is change the weather. I’m picturing a very severe almost surreal storm with abstract cloud structure and an interesting light source. Something like this volcanic lightning is what I’m picturing http://monscooch.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/volcano.jpg

If not for the weather, a massive ‘Independence Day’ inspired ship hovering/attacking comes to mind, or maybe some kind of abstract structure towering over the hills.

That volcano image is totally sick! I love it! On the topic, maybe you can turn that image into a graveyard with a pretty spooky tree in the front or something like that. And maybe add some very dramatic lighting to it. I hope this helps. Keep it up!
