Multiple texture maps suggestion

Howdy, howdy, hey,

I just saw the new preview of mudbox 2009… It looks spectacular. A very good reason to upgrade the old computer. That said, I had an idea that would put those new features to good use.

It would be great to have the ability , in addition to setting the color and shape of a brush, to set the various properties of a standard 3d material (or perhaps something like the MIA_X). Perhaps some sort of interface to set the specularity, transparency, diffuse, or any other parameter and they be able to paint them all at once and then export all the maps separately.

For instance, imagine painting a white washed fence and being able to set up one brush for, the paint, with high specularity and all the properties of paint, and then a brown brush with all of the properties of the underlying wood.

Then all of the new visalization bit could be used to display a close approximation what the final renders will look like with all of the different maps applied.

Fancy huh?

To be clear in Mudbox 2009 you will be able to paint multiple channels like diffuse, spec, reflection, gloss, bump… and view them at the same time. You can also export them all as individual textures if you like.

The thing that i was wondering is if they could all be painted at the same time? Something along the lines of applying the brush as a material.

If i were to paint rust on a ship each brush stroke would apply the basic parameters I set for the rust material to each map. That way the features in all of the maps would automatically correspond.

Exciting stuff anyway.
