Mudbox Bump > Maya

#1

What format do I export my bump maps in? nothing seems to work with Maya!

the only thing I’ve worked out, was to export as a tif, then go to photoshop and convert to bmp.

Thats all I can get to work correctly! surely theres a fromat I can use straight away?

use .tga or .png
mud is compressing tiff files with the lzw compression and maya cant read it…
so turn off lzw compression in mudbox or resave the file in ps…
or use .exr files if you are using mental ray…

are you baking a displacementmap or painting a bumpmap…?

I’m just [ainting some bumps, and then exporting them for maya. I tend to use 32bit exr’s for displacement. I was just wondering about bumps because I’m tired of exporting .tif, and converting them straight into bmp’s!
every other format leaves gaps in the map when they’re on the object :S

gaps…?
may i see a screen…?
why are you using bmps…? i dont like this format…

I tried everything else and they all do the same! I even went Tif to png, and go the same result. I think jpg worked ok, but it’s lossy and gave me some artifacts!

I’ll try to get an example

when you paint bumps use TGA to avoid the tiff problem
