mudbox 2011 - total CRASH - Please HELP

#1

I have installed mudbox 2011 32bit version using the default settings (I haven’t changed any of the paths in neither the installation setup nor the data path found in mudbox’s preferences or the one that pops initially after setup)

The program runs fine in every aspect of it (paint/ pose/effects/ layers etc) EXCEPT the sculpting tools!!

No matter what mesh used (even using mudbox’s own default sample meshes) the program simply crashes once ANY of the sculpting tools is applied on it!!

It always pop up an INformative error massage of the following type

An unknown error has occured while performing the operation.
We are sorry for the inconvinience.

Is that supposed to inform me ??? WHAT is wrong with it ??
Is there something that I am doing wrong OR the program is buggy on its own ?

I am using an ATI Radeon 4600 card with it with the latest catalyst drivers 10.3 and it is running smoothly in every other area (rotating/ zooming etc) so I guess the gfx card should be an issue.

Though the program is really unsuable without being able to use the sculpting tools and the error info provided gives me NO info as how may I overcome the problem.

It has to be noted that in the same machine Mudbox2010 used to run fine with no issue!!! ( iave uninstalled it before installing the new one and I have deleted previous settings found under document and setting directory)
So what is wrong with the update version ???

PLAESE HELP
ANYONE ???

maybe something with your wacom driver…?

#3

Wacom driver ?
But that works perfectly well with painting and whole navigation within the program

It happens even when mouse is used to apply a sculpting tool over a surface!

Anyone from Autodesk ?
ANYONE ???

dont come to Cgtalk asking for tech support from Autodesk.

You must meet the minimum requirements, with updated drivers to eliminate the first round of problems.

#5

I respect what you say, but the problem is that my system meets the minimum requirements and the problem still insists.

The popup that comes up after applying a sculpting tool over a surface doesn’t help me at all to figure out the issue and the fact that previous version did work perfectly well on the same system makes me wonder.

That is why I am asking for help!
I would really appreciate if anyone know how this may be fixed and working ?!

#6

Again, request support from Autodesk and submit your crash log.

I only get these errors when running out of memory on a 32bit system. Laptops or Mac versions using boot camp have been known to be unstable because the do not meet requirements.

Its safe to say this is a hardware or driver issue with your system.

#7

did you remove the preference folder located under My Documents > Mudbox
restart and make sure you ask it to create new rather than copy old

#8

tristratos, If you’re still having problems, try logging a bug by starting up Mudbox and going through the Help menu -> Report a problem… link.

Be sure to copy and paste everything in the Help -> System information dialog window into the bug report form. Also, open up the log window (Windows menu->Log ) and include all the text from the log too.
