Mudbox(2010) & Softimage with DX11 gfx card-ATI RADEON VAPOR X5770?

hi all

I am about to get a new gfx card and I was wondering if this ATI card is a good option for Mudbox 2010. I have heard the ATI cards are not the best when it comes to 3D apps and many people have been having probs with viewports and drivers.

has anyone used this card yet with Mudbox (and Softimage maybe) ?

I can’t answer your question directly, however I can attest that this card from Nvidia/EVGA

works flawlessly in both Softimage x64 and Mudbox x64.

Mudbox is an OpenGL app. DirectX support is not what you should worry about. I heard that ATI never properly implemented OpenGL. One of the original OpenGL developers worked for NVIDIA from the very start and NVIDIA’s implementation of OpenGL was always flawless. For this reason NVIDIA was always the best choice for 3D editing software . I am not sure how things stand now though and how this particular card will work. I heard that ATI owners had problems with ambient occlusion in Mudbox 2009. Make sure you have at least 1GB of video memory on board. This is very important for mud. And you can’t get it wrong with NVIDIA.
