MR Displacement problem

#1

Hi guys!

im having a problem rendering displacement in Maya MR. other geometry on the scene works fine with displacement but im getting this problem on the main piece of geo of the model.

The problem is that its not displacing the black text on top:

you can see here that in fact the top part of the model is displacing down thats why you can see a little border in the edge that shouldnt be there…

subdivision settings, tried with spatial with wierd result

hypergraph connections.

any clues?? thanks

Dave.

Possible, 2 subdivisions not enough for such tiny details.

Thank you kiryha for taking the time, appreciate it, unfortunately tried with 4 subdvisions and the results are the same…

Hi damoke

To be sure that your geometry behaves as it should you can use the mr contours - feature to check the topology.

Attached sample is a torus with a checker as displacement.

EDIT: With different subdivision settings, of course.

Your map looks like it is black and white. Black pushes down, white pushes up. 50% grey doesn’t do anything. So if you don’t want your geo getting pushed down, that part needs to be 50% grey and the text white. You will also need to play with the alpha gain and offset to fine tune the effect. There’s lots of tuts out there for displacement in maya MR.

Thanks Risto and TheBeals, i will try both sugestions

Hi, the problem seemed to be my base model didnt have enough subdivisions, also i redid my map in greyscale as Thebeals suggested, uped the resolution from 1024 to 2048 selected alpha is luminance in the displace file node and used the lenght/distance/angle aprox method

Thanks for the help guys! didnt get to try the mr contors, Risto but good to know its there
