Moving 3d scenes to and from maya

#1

Hey everyone!

I am prettey new to both programs and just want to know if there is a good worklow for moving scenes between them. Not gonna be importing anything extreme so it shuld be quite simple.
I just want to import and export geometry and animation.

Anyoone know a good tuorial or have a good explanation?

Huh? AE does not support any kind of geometry. All you can import are Nulls (Locators) and camera information. Please read the online help on how to import cam data using *.ma files and check AEnhancers for scripts on exchanging other information.

That isn’t strictly true any more. As of CS4, you can import 3d objects into Photoshop, save as PSD, and export them into After Effects as 3d layers. Theoretically, anyway; I haven’t yet tried it.

It’s still of no use with regards to the OP’s original intended. Encapsulating 3D items in PSDs effectively ruins all 3D coordinate info in terms of world orientation plus, since AE does not reproduce e.g. PSD lights as native AE lights, there is nothing to move back and forth, which is the whole point. So no, this doesn’t help at all.
