Movie: The Lord of the Mojo [Beyond Imagination Limited]

#1

Hi all,

I’ve been surfing over these boards for a couple of weeks now, seeing stuff that I found truly amazing. People over here have skills I could never have dreamed off.

As for me, me and 2 friends started a film. It got bigger and bigger, and now it’s a movie actually, which will be about 90 minutes I think, but we’re not totally sure. I’ve just finished the second trailer, which looks pretty tasty, you download it here:

http://83.149.84.140/~eg7788/filmpjes/trailer2ready.avi (note that it’s coded with Xvid).

It’s a sort of comedy which will intent to be pretty cool, and we strive for the best. We use Lord of the Rings pretty much for the storyline, only we adjust some stuff. We use some other movies as well, mainly Star Wars.

Some FX screens:

As for me, I did the editing, sound & Visual Effects. But as for me, I intend to make things better. That’s why I started out trying to learn 3d a short week ago.

But my plan really, is to make a small group of people who would like to make movies, visual effects, sound, etc. I would really like some people, no matter your skills, to get involved in our projects. I can’t do anything anymore, because it’s been such a big work. Me and my 2 friends would like other people helping as well. So if you would like, just send me an email: da_gotan@hotmail.com

I’ve just deleted the website and made a small webpage where you can download the trailer with a very simplistic graphic on top, but I’m in the process of making a new layout, which I hope to be pretty cool, with conceptual arts, wallpapers, forums, downloads, etc.

So go and check out the trailer and if you’d like, just give me a call. We could really use your help!

Greetings Gotan

I’ve just updated the website so you will find some more information there. Still busy adding some more content though…

At the moment we’re really looking for a 3d rigger/texturer and maybe animator for Gollum. We’ve already found ourselves a modeller.

Realy hope to see some enthusiastic reactions,

Gotan

WHahahahahaa man you’re killing me with those pics  ! Looks really fun, I’m downloading the trailer, anyways I’m an FX dude, visual effects, particle systems, lighting effects… and the like. Also I got some experience with Fruity Loops and Reaktor, those are for music … If you need something just let me know.

Just checked out your trailer and website and thought I would post some feedback for you. I’m going to divide this up into three sections to make the critique flow a little better.

Audio
This needs to be better balanced. There are parts that are impossible to hear and then others that are really loud. I’m not sure what audio program you are using to capture the audio but you should go in and tweek the levels so that the are more consistant. I know this is a student film and for fun so I’ll try not to pick too hard on the use of copywritten materials - but try to stay away from sounds taken directly from a movie or sound track. Some sounds (like the light sabers) I know you can download from fan films sites legally - you might want to take those sounds in and fade into and out of them so they aren’t so abrupt.

Video
Mostly very decent videoagraphy with a couple of exceptions were the camera person was running through the woods and things were shaky. There were also a couple of spots where the video kinda flaked out on you (good old consumer cameras  )

Storytelling
As this is just a trailer it seems to me that you are trying to tell too much of your story and therefore it seems to be a giant jigsaw that doesn’t fit together, I had lots of trouble following it. Try finding a couple of overarching themes and build around those to shorten your trailer up. This will help build excitement and interest with out using all your shots and as much text.

Hope this helps
