Mountains shrouded in clouds?

#1

I’m new to Vue 6 xStream. I have been trying to render a cloud-shrouded mountain. I’m using the spectral atmosphere with a single cloud layer. I’m trying to get the effect of mountain peaks lost in clouds, but try as I might I seem unable to get any clouds in front of the terrain. Even when I lower the altitude of the cloud layer to 1 meter.

Any tips?

Vue includes some sample scenes - one of them is a mountain in the clouds. May help to open that and take a peak.

For the clouds, try increasing the cloud cover and density and try using different cloud materials. Also, spectral scenes depend on real world size, so if your terrain is too small, it will be more difficult to get the clouds looking right. I like to make the terrain rather large and then move it around to get in in the clouds where I want it and then adjust the camera for the best picture.

Thanks!

I figured it out. Turns out that my terrain was scaled really small. Apparently, by default, when a terrain is created in Vue it’s sized to a 1-meter square area–so it was less than 1 meter in height. I scaled it up by a factor of 4,000 and that did the trick. Peaks now poke up through the clouds nicely!
