Motion Tracking Frame Rate Problem

#1

Hopefully this is the correct forum. Although I’m using Boujou and Cinema 4D I feel the question applies to other software as well.

To keep it short, it seems that my 3D objects rendered over my motion-tracked footage is “wobbly” because the frame rate of the tracked video and my 3D overlay are not the same. For example it will look stable and seem to increase in instability over time.

The video was recorded on an iPod Touch 4G and the frame rate is listed as:
Frame rate mode: Variable
Frame rate: 24.000 fps
Minimum frame rate: 23.077 fps
Maximum frame rate: 25.000 fps

Boujou exported the C4D file at 24FPS. And set the footage to 24FPS. While C4D seems to think the footage should be played back at 23FPS. I’ve tried various combonations but I’m not sure what to do from here.

Summary:
How do I synchronize a variable frame-rate video and a constant frame-rate 3D overlay?

Hi,

why don't you some compositing software, where you can play with frame rate to get the result. Like in AE you can alter their time frame.

Wow! I never checked this post anymore as I never got an answer on it before.

Anyway, it was awhile ago now, but as far as I can remember I tried with several framerate combinations and none were really good enough.

Lately though I’ve done some 2D tracking with After Effects and I’ve managed to get a very stable track, so it seems that the problem is not the video quality.
