I am currently assessing mocap systems for a new studio. We have decided to pursue a passive optical system and the two system we are comparing are Vicon and Motion Analysis.
I am trying to determine the benefits and pitfalls of each but it is hard to wade through the marketing spiel and determine the hard facts.
Particularly of interest to the studio is the ability to do real-time captures and combining multiple performances with existing ‘just captured’ motion. This is mostly in order to overcome the neccessity of capturing 10 performers with a system that will only support 3-4 performers at once.
This is not a determining factor, but it is something to be considered in the purchase.
Also, the main conduit is motion builder, so any tips or limitations in regards to input/output from motion builder would be awesome.
I’d love to hear from anyone out there who works in a mocap studio or has lots of contact time with mocap, thanks in advance.
