monochrome to colour

I’m sorry if this is a really stupid question, but…

I have a 30 second segment of colour video. I would like to change this to monochrome, then replace the colour as the video plays. Is the kind of thing that Combustion can be used to do?

I have never used Combustion, and don’t really understand compositing.

There are a few operators that could help. 1) the Color Correction > Gray Operator (this creates a gray scale image using a percentage slider) 2) Selection Operators (these will allow you to make only selected areas gray as well as remove selections as needed). For more in depth explanation of these refer to the help that ships with Combustion.

Thanks Eric.

I don’t actually have Combustion, so can’t check the manuals.

I just wanted to know if this was the right tool for this kind of job before making a relatively expensive mistake.
