monitor for architecture and visualisation

Hello,

I am making a new workstation:

-CPU:Inter Core i7 3770K
-GPU: firepro W5000
-motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX2
-16 GB DDR3
-Case: Corsair Carbide 500R
-PS: EVGA 750W SuperNova NEX
-dvd writter Samsung sh-224bb
-HardDisk OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 120gb
-Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 CPU

I am using Archicad and Rhino for my projects and Cinema 4D for visualisation and i sometimes print my renders.

I’ve read that i should look for sRGB backlight monitors for better colour accuracy.

I would like a 24" monitor, but the problem is that my budget is small (around 300$).

I really don’t know which is a good monitor for that budged and some help from you would be really apreciated.

Have you had colour accuracy problems insofar?
If not then why upgrade?
If you need to upgrade for other reasons and want a reasonably colour accurate monitor that can cope with sRGB space the dell 2412 is IPS, sRGB capable (with good gamut coverage for sRGB and respectable for Adobe sRGB) and well reputed, and they toned down their old ridiculous anti-glare.

LG, BenQ and Asus also all have competing offers with varying degrees of luminosity and sRGB gamut coverage.

Above website reviews’ are usually OK, at least to figure out the numbers and sRGB coverage.

Usually high 70s Adobe sRGB coverage (75%+) IPS from a reputable brand will cover most print needs. That will usually be high 90s sRGB.
100% coverage and high 90s Adobe sRGB will be a lot more expensive, but you don’t really need that if print is incidental work for you.

I have a macbook pro, and i did not have accuracy problems, but i upgrade because i need a more performant computer and i will need a display for it.

dell 2412 seems enough for my needs, i will check it.

In that case I would recommend the Dell as a headaches free choice. Do rent a colour calibration probe though, their factory calibration is better than nothing, but still a long shot away from what you get from a more accurate and thorough calibration.

At 75-80% of Adobe sRGB coverage combined with a decent calibration you are extremely close to high grade accuracy for print. The jump to the next step (90%+ Adobe sRGB and always 100% sRGB) would double your budget. If you were to consider it though, I would look at Asus. Their 500$ range is better than Dell’s IMO. Not their 250-300 though.

I have two Dell U2713HM monitors that are very good for CG - sRGB so all the programs look right, even ones that aren’t colour managed. No perceptible backlight bleed on either.

Can you please tell me wich dell 2412? I have found U2412M, U2412H, U2412.

There are also Dell P2412M…

The Dell U2412M has 95.8% sRGB, so i guess you talk about the U2412H wich seems to be a bit worse.

M model, yes. 95% sRGB gamut is a sweet spot in the 300 range, as said before :slight_smile:
