MODO...was it worth it?

#1

Ok guys. Modo has been out for a few months now. What is everyones verdict? Was it worth buying or is still an app in progress? Share your thoughts people.

#2

 …

#3

…$99? I thought it was like $699?

#4

Educational version.

#5

I paid $599 for it and it was worth every penny!

#6

I like it as a modeler. I’m pretty disappointed that it has crap for UV tools though. If they can put some work into decent UV tools and fine tuning the existing toolset in general, I’ll happily say it was worth it. Not just yet though.

Modo is our ticket into Luxology’s bright new future… I hope

#8

I am happy with MODO, for a 1.0 version it is full functional and working for production now. And what is more important, i think that it is the base for a bright new future 3D app …

Damn…Modo is da sh*t…I love it…One of if not the best modellers out there. And for 1.0…wow!.. I just hope it stays a modeller and is not intergrated into an animation system making it less streamlined and fat like maya…and prob with maya price tag!

Fits in beautifully into my pipeline (modo>maya>mentalray)

It’s worth it

I really like it - I never use LW anymore and just go right from Modo to Maya. But, if you’re happy with what you have then feel free to wait for 2.0. This version is more about a new way of working (action center/falloff/tool methadology), and customizing the UI to fit your needs. The tools themselves in this version aren’t revolutionary - but the foundation put forth in 1.0 is great and the revolutionary tools will come. It’s hard to change your way of working if you’ve been doing the same thing for years - so you may want to get in on Modo early so you can start a transition in the way you work.

Honestly, once you start using Modo it’s hard to go back to something else. It truely does feel ‘next gen’ - and other programs just feel a little…old.

best,

Greg

modo is a VERY sweet modeler, and Luxology is here to stay.
I had my copy of modo delivered on my door, less than 50 hours after I had ordered it.
US to Norway in 48 hours. Not bad.

I’m very happy with it so far… great piece of software!
I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s their rendering engine is going to be.

Cheers,

The ripper.

Well I only have modo two days now and although its hard to get the old stuff out of your head. You need to. I am already doing things in modo I would not bother with in LW8 because it was at times not so user friendly. With modo things like fall off is in real time and is very intuitive.

Anyways the over all verdict is out.

Thanks luxology.

It doesn’t worth it… better buy Silo, it’s really Great!

hmm first up the fall off in lightwave is realtime too and personally this is an area i prefer in lightwave the fact you set it up ona per tool basis rather than globally - that said its really just like an upto date lightwave modeler - the fact that cut tools etc work in symetry is jsut awesome and the fact taht you can work in the apparent directions on both sides of teh mesh in symetry is awesome too

one other thing i would like from lightwave is the action center mouse - i know you can set you action center pretty quick in modo but i haven’t discovered a way of making jsut act instintively as the mouse as your action center

not quite as fluent in modo as lightwave yet but yeah overall its good stuff - lookingforward to the next update as while its reasonbly stable its not quite as stable as i would like yet and afew new tools say a proper bridge tool and yeah will be great

I have to say that it IS worth it. As long as luxology moves on. The App will become very good, i am sure of that. But till it is, there have to be a few improvements.

But what i would like to see is, that lux behaves like nevercenter in terms of user feedback. I am very disapointed not to hear anything about how the app is going on. the website of luxology is VERY outdated (it is still written there that no word for student prices is made, luxology.net is still down, no forum for user feedback at luxology.com, no tutorials… and so on). Nevercenter writes every Week a post in the Forum like “this week we fixed that and added that”… From Luxology we didn´t hear anything since the release about a bugfix, feature improvement etc. Do you guys still work on Modo?

I hope they don´t put all their manpower in “Nexus” and forgot about Modo! Please guys, tell us that there will be something soon. AND please update your website. Don´t wait till you finished ALL the Tutorials you want to make. put them online step by step. Don´t wait to fix ALL the things you wanted to and give small updates to the customers. Show us that you do something.

ok, that was a bit off in this thread. But i had to say it. Fell much better now. G

Again, i am happy with Modo. It was worth the Money i spent and Modo will be a GREAT app.
It is more “solid” than Silo ( i am a silo user as well) and will improve in bigger steps than silo will do.

greetings

Martin

well yes and no. silo will have many small releases by the time we see one from lux. by this time they should have about the same amount of fixes/improvements happening on both sides. seeing how the silo guys are updating during beta, i dont see how the lux guys would give much larger improvements. maybe on the same level, but not more.

#19

well, think you are right. For example with the topology brush silo took the lead in points of innovation i think.
lux now has to follow and it will be not easy. I don´t know how much “manpower” is behind lux/nevercenter. And as nevercenter has only one product to focus at, lux also has “nexus” to work on. Hope modo still has the priority it deserves.
