Modo -> Softimage - maintain local coordinates?

#1

Sorry for crossposting this, but I’m hoping between the Modo forum and the Softimage forum, someone will have an answer.

I have a model that was created by a Modo artist. We’ve always used LWO and Point Oven to get things from Modo to XSI. However in this particular case I need the model to maintain all of it’s local coordinates.

It’s made up of hundreds of objects and I need every single object to keep it’s local Y axis. When I use Point Oven to bring the LWO in, it sets all coordinates to global 0,0,0.

Does anyone have any experience going from Modo to Softimage and maintaining the local coordinates of all objects?

Thanks,

Paul

Shoot in the dark but cant you have Nulls placed at the same Y spots of each object and in XSI read that Y info from them?

did you try FBX ?

the way we work here, is like this
unfortunately i haven’t find a way to pass the pivots or the centers of the objects of Modo to XSI.

XSI crash for some reason with FBX

so what we do is this, we model everythign in modo, and then export it with LWO import.

we dont move the "Items"with that the centers are allways in 0.0,0 if we move the item lets say 0,1,0, when we go into xsi, the pivot will be fine position but will reset to 0,0,0

and then we select the vertex where the pivot should be and “center to vertices” for all the objects.

this guy say something about that might work
