Modo - one-time special price of $500

#1

Our Way of Saying Thanks

To show our appreciation for your support this holiday, we are making modo available to official Luxology community members at a one-time special price of $500 (per seat). That’s 45% off the list price of $895.

To order, simply visit our online store before December 31, 2004 and enter hohomodo as the coupon code for the full version or hohomodoDL for the download only version.

Of course, this past year was just the beginning. We hope you share our excitement as we look to build on our momentum and further establish modo as the prevailing standard 3-D modeling platform in the industry.

A friend of mine wants to know if he should wait until the new version comes out. He was just about to buy when I received a newsletter in my email with all of these sweet enhancements. So he was apprehensive. His question is if he buys now will there be a free upgrade if you bought within a certain timeframe of the new version? Or will he ahve o pay an additional price (upgrade?)

102 is a free upgrade to modo 101

#4

Sounds good…one more sale for modo…I’ll let him know. Any idea when 102 drops?

#5

Apparently they are poking it with sharp sticks right now…

I bought modo and I’m disapointed with the performance. The tools and UI are wonderful, but I can’t trust a software that freeze and crash several times. I’m not using it right now in my work. I went back to my LW8. I hope the update will give a more fast and reliable software. If this is the same people that made LW, I hope they will build a rock solid modo. in the market of software should be a way of “return of the merchandise” with license and CD. I Could send them back to Luxology . and wait for version 3 o 4. Modo will be great.

tunedby:
Try to upgrade your display drivers, it should fix most of the crashes.

Since no one pasted the link to 102 Sneak Preview, here it is:

I think it’s time to get hyped

Hi MarioKart

Could you elaborate as to who would be an “official Luxology community member”. Thanks.

Best regards

Unfortunately, the latest Nvidia driver causes crashes in C4D and XSI, so if you use those apps the only way to get everything working fine is to revert to a older driver, something around 49 I believe. However, the performance of Modo will be slower with the older Nvidia driver.

Cheers,

Anyone who has registered on the Luxology site for news and forums got an email with the info in the first post.

Although I suspect they will let anyone just wander in and use the discount code.

I suffered EXTREME crashes, freeze ups and other unpleasantries when I first received LW8. To the point I refused to use it anymore until the 8.01 release was made available. It was only after trying several nVidia drivers did the problem solve.

As a couple of others have stated, your stability problem is related to the video drivers you are using, in fact it was well known there was an early bug related to nVidia drivers, not any fault of Modo. As applications go, Modo is certainly stable enough to be used in a daily production environment. If it wasn’t you can be certain that EdenFX would NOT have incorporated it into their production pipeline.

Thanks for responding, MadMax. Could someone from Luxology confirm this. Is the USD 500 price available for anyone or just previously registered individuals? Thanks.

My video card is an ati radeon 7000 dual monitor (pc w/amd xp and 1gz ram). I couldn’t find updated drivers for it. I’m disapointed with myself for bought modo. I Should bought better FPrime or XSI. From the consumer point of view should be a return policy in the software industry. I prefer a software with less features but rock solid, like rhino or other. I have to trust in my software to get the job done. I was planning to sell my modo Box (license and CD), but with this $ 500 offer i have to wait until january.

#15

Yes, the first LW8 crashed also, but I could still use LW7.

My graphics card is an ATI RADEON X300SE. Has anyone experience of using this card with Modo?

Tunedby: not sure if you have tried all the drivers at the ATI site. With another 3D app I recently had problems due to drivers with the card above. Another user suggested I download a specific older driver, and it cured the problem immediately. I would never have thought to use that particular driver as it really was pretty old. Maybe you could work through some of the other ATI drivers. I would be interested to know if you have any success.

Best regards

Alex

Alex: thank for your advice, I will try later. This Video Card Ati 7000 work OK with LW8 and Rhino in my computer. Is not a powerful card, but all the applications run fine. I also notice that modo is slow with complex model (high ammount of polygons). (For those who are actualy using modo in production could you tell us please wich video card you have?) I will follow the path of most cgtalk members that is to wait for updates and feedback comments to the development team of the software.

You will find that more 3D application users are going to be using nVidia based cards for their work. ATI is not particularly OpenGL friendly. ATI has OpenGL support, but it is pretty weak at best. ATI is more geared for the DirectX crowd, not those requiring OpenGL performance.

I’m working on High end Quadro cards. FX3000G and FX4000 cards.

#19

You should be dissapointed you bought an ATI card. They are well known for their OpenGL Problems for as long as I can remember. Modo runs fine on my system with and NVidia card.

#20

Did you post that you were dissapointed and that you wished you could return LW8 a bunch of times in the Lightwave forum?
