Hello…
I spend the last two hours trying to reconfigure Modo’s interfece on a dual monitor setup and it repeatedly kept crashing, loosing of course all settings up to that point. The crashes sometimes where followed by a Dr.Watson pop up and sometimes i was send to the desktop without warrning. I ended up saving the config in a “single clilck edit, then save” process. This is realy annoying and i hope it’s been addressed in the upcoming patch, cause what’s the use of features if the program keeps crashing on a simple window panel drag…
Thanks,
Modo Is Waaaaaaayyy Unstable !!
What video card/drivers are you using? I have no trouble with twinview using dual monitors and a quadro fx1000, are you using twin view or horizontal span because you’re only gonna get opengl performance on one monitor, thats a windows limitation and nothing to do with the guys at luxology.
MunCH
Sorry to ask the obvious but are you using the latest video drivers for your card?
I also had many stability problems with my dual monitor setup but these were pretty much fixed with the latest nvidia drivers (I use a Geforce 5900XT).
What OS, graphics card and drivers are you using?
Keith
you got there first muncher!
Hello, guys…
I’ve two Modos runnging on two IBM Intelis equiped with a Quadro FX 3000, using latest Quadro specific official nVidia drivers ver. 67.22 (WinXP). The nView display mode is set to Horizontal Span. Both Modos suffer with the same symptoms.
Why is not a Luxology problem? I’ve no problems with all the other Open GL software on these PCs (Maya, Lightwave, Deep Exploration, Messiah Studio, Real Flow)…
Thanks,
OK well all that info migh have been better in your 1st post
I have used detonator RIP from www.guru3d.com a bit when upgradng cards and or changing drivers just to clear out any unwanted pieces of old driver, worth a try anyway, goodluck and keep us posted.
MunCH
Thanks, MunCHeR…
The drivers i use are the only one installed in these systems -except the XPs default- since we did a fresh XP re-installation recently…
I’d like to hear an official opinion about this matter, though…
Thanks,
Thanks, Mad Max…
Though, i don’t think that i have any issues using the build-in nView managment system from nVidia and using an alternative multi-monitor manager is only a waste of much needed system resources, imho…
Thanks anyway…
Well then your issue is still the drivers.
To comment on your previous post asking why it isn’t a Lux problem when other apps run stable then I would point out this…
I have Lightwave, Maya, Digital Fusion and now Modo. ALL run largely stable.
However in the past I have run afoul of driver hell. Maya running stable, Lightwave crashing every 5 minutes. In fact Lightwave was the only app I had stability issues with. Does this make it a Newtek issue when numerous studios rely on LW daily with no problems?
Driver tinkering fixed the problem.
In the past I ahve had Maya issues, app disappearing to desktop etc. generally happens with new versions, updates etc.
I’m running Modo just fine with zero stability issues on a system wth dual monitors. If it was in fact a Lux issue, everyone would have a problem. Obviously that is not the case. However people who got Modo when it very first came out did mention problems with crashing and stability and it was resolved when nVidia released new drivers.
Easiest way to solve a problem is to use common sense.
Well…
I never said that we’ll quit on Modo, trying to figure a solution. I just wanted an official statement if stabilty issues with drivers, panels and such are resolved or dealt with in the upcoming patch…
Regards,
Do you find it crashes as much when using one monitor? I find all applications that use opengl crash alot more on dual setup.
I find that dual setup works grat on my FX2000 card but the instability thats been going of forever is caused when Nview Desktop Manager is enabled…It has some nice features that beneft dual monitors but is very unstable after even one hour of use, regardless of the driver…I’ve used them all
Try the latest nvidia drivers out now…they fixed a few crashes on dual for me.
Cheers.
