Modo & Dual CPU

#1

Does modo make use of dual processors on a G5 2.5GHZ?

CHEERS

It seems to. It certainly flies right along for me. I realize that’s not technically a yes, but seeing as it was developed on the Mac and dual-processor compatibility is a common thing with competing products, I’d say it’s a safe bet.

kk…cheers 4 the insight

i bet it doesnt. besides zbrush ( which only uses multithreading for a few things… ) there is no other 3d app that utilizes miltithreading except for a few tasks. usually involving rendering.

mac could have dual processors but you dont have to use them. you could run whatever process using only one thread. and i bet itll be easier to code too.

I agree with ambient. There is not much you could do in parallel in a modeler. There is not much to gain. It is like running a text editor, what would and could you do simultaneously? Typing? The hardware with the most impact on speed in a modeler is the GPU.

It is a different matter if the modeler uses system calls that spawn multiple threads. During this time the modeler might use two cpu’s. However, I use a dual CPU system because I can run processes in the background without loosing response of the foreground process (ie modo) or when I use LW to render.

I was told (yes the famous “I was told”) that it doesnt…either way it SMOKES on my Mac:)

Hello all, would it not be a good idea if someone from LUXOLOGY answered this floating point 64 bit loaded question for us all.
