Modo discount price soon to end

#1

I’m trying to work out how long the Modo discount price will last, before it goes up to the regular price of US $895.

I seem to remember that Luxology President Brad Peebler said the discount would last for 60 days. Modo was released on September 17, 2004, according to Luxology’s website. I figure that would mean the last day of the discount would be around November 15, and after that the price will rise.

Maybe someone from Lux would like to clarify that, as my dates are just estimations (I’d hate to cause anyone to miss out!)

Personally, I’d been hoping that Luxology would provide the option of a 100% downloadable version of Modo (while the introductory discount is still running). Alas, it hasn’t happened, as you still have to take delivery of a DVD and a book via UPS courier.

Anyway, it’s November now, so there’s not much time left for the introductory price.

I think a 100% download option may be on the cards as on my purchases page at Luxology.com I can now download the videos and docs as well as the software…

#3

Really? You can download the manual and training videos already? That’s fantastic. Luxology is really moving.

All we need now is the option to cancel the UPS courier (for those people who are happy with a PDF manual). Those who like paper manuals can pay the extra for it.

Yup - you got the PDF manual with the original software download anyway but you can now download all the videos too:

I´ll hope there will be a 100% download version. 125$ in shipping, pluss tax (24% on top of Modo and shipping) is TOO much.
But I´ll guess that when that happend, the intro price and LW discount is gone…
Please Lux.

The tax might be not as much as you think as you would have to pay tax on the value of the packet you receive. Lux had valued my packet at US$127 not US$595. Which was regarded by the taxman in NZ as minor and I had to pay nothing. In Norway that might be a different issue.

Cheers

Thanks Matariki. That saves me some bucks!

That’s very interesting. It would be hard to put a value on the parcel.

When you purchase Modo, you download the software immediately and start using it. Later, Lux sends out a parcel with the manual and disc for backup. But the main item of value, Modo, you already had before this.

So maybe Lux calculates the value of the parcel as the cost of printing the manual. I’m glad they do it that way.

Actually I think Matariki got his delivered a day or so after mine, I got slugged $150 in tax/duties so I think luxology had a policy change or something, could be wrong though.

Well… I’ve just ordered mine, installed it an tried it for 3 minutes now.

It looks god, but the first thing I did was to remap the mouse keys to Maya, and hoped for similar navigation. When you hold down the Alt+LB for rotate, it’s NOT doing the same as in Maya/XSI or the viewport rotate icon.
It’s doing it the Lightwave way. The center shifts and the view starts tilting. Thats NOT rotate… It’s ANNOING!

I’m used to use the viewport icon in LW, but I hoped Modo did it the Maya/XSI way.

Am I wrong???

disable trackball rotation in the viewport prefs tab, should fix that.

Thank you! Perfect…

You might also want to keep your eye if anyone is selling their license of Modo, assuming that is allowed. Could save a HEAP on shipping and taxes.

#14

I’m guessing that in 3 or 4 days the Modo discounts will end, and the price will shoot up to US $895.

Hello Luxology? Any word on this?

#15

I just purchased MODO from the site on Tuesday evening. Paid $595 with the $100 LW discount, and the shipping was only around $10 or so. (UPS Ground-East Coast US). So far so good…
Saved @ $300 by purchasing now.
If you go to: http://www.luxology.com/modo/pricing.aspx -you will find the coupon code for LW users to get the $100 discount. Again, not sure how long this pricing and discounts will last.
