Modelling for games, advice requested.

Hello all,

To start off, I recently got back into modelling after a 6 month hiatis and am having a little trouble. When I left, I was really fluent in 3dsmax, modelling weapons and such, and had an acquired knowledge of all the tools I needed. I recently started back up again (due to sports injury) and have found myself right where I left off. This was a surprise to me, and I remembered everything no problem. My problem however is that I am still having trouble modelling characters, especially for games. It’s like I’m at the point where I should be grasping the concepts, but still haven’t. So I picked up the Gnomon DVD’s by Mayan Escalante, and they helped quite a bit, but as you all know Max isnt Maya and vise-versa. So now my question (finally, I know). Is there anyone here who models specifically for games whom can point me in the proper direction so that I can really get my feet off the ground. I enjoy video tutorials, but I know gnomon doesnt have any Max DVD’s. Are there any equivalents? Again, I have a strong foundation when it comes a bit beyond the basics, but I’m still struggling with my models.

Sorry if my question seems all over the place here, but thanks a lot to anyone who can help.

Hey guys,

I’m really sorry to bump this thread since it has no responses.

I came across this video set from Autodesk.

3DS Max game development Series

It looks like it’s just what I need, but is there anyone who could reccomend this as being worth the price for an amateur modeller? Unfortunately the video previews are not working, so I can’t see the demo video, that’s why I’m asking for reccomendations.

Thanks!

since being in concern to games and effects . I have checked over net but exact about games

development is a wide area to explain.

you have to go through modelling, texturing, animating(which has to really hardcore strong) and lot more

stuff to open your mind and imagination.

you can checkout www.gamedev.com .

little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I highly recommend the low poly character modeling series by Ben Mathis (he also frequents these forums though I forget his username here). They’re probably the best video tutorials for max that I’ve ever see on the subject, and taught me just about everything I know about editable poly modeling.

You can find them along with other tutorials here:
