Model not accepting paint

#1

After sculpting a model for some time, I tried to begin painting it. Nothing happened. The model seems to be permanently stuck solid black. I can see the brush tool, but clicking doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried removing and re-creating the layers; the black goes away if I delete all layers, but returns as soon as I try to create a new one.

I’ve attached a screen shot. Thanks in advance for any help.

are you using a graphic card with less than 512mb ram…?

#3

I don’t have the specs with me right now, but I’ve painted models at least as complex in the past without issue.

#4

test to paint a smaller texture… 512er maybe…
and install service pack1…

#5

Don’t you need to unwrap a model outside of Mudbox before being able to paint on it in Mudbox?

#6

without uvs you cant paint…

#7

As others have said, you need uv’s first, but I also had a problem painting on a mesh I brought in from XSI because it had 2 n-gons. Make sure your mesh is 100% quads.
