Mocha Track Question

#1

So I’m trying to track this shot, where it says DOUBT.

I need my tracked element to sit on top of this ridge, so I have been tracking the ridge as my plane. The camera is on a tripod head panning from right to left. I know the move has some slight pespective since it travels in sort of an arc and not a straight line.
My issue is I can’t get a solid track using mocha to AE. Corner pin doesn’t work. Transform data, the left side of the word is solid but the right side I see some sliding.

My questions are: should I have perspective enabled in mocha for the track? (have tried it no change)
What should I really be tracking as my plane?
And finally, should this really be a 3d track?

Any help is much appreciated.

If you have any perspective changes you should enable perspective tracking.

However, if you export transform data the perspective information will get lost during the export. This is because transform data of AE layers just consists of position, scale, and rotation. There is no way to include shear or perspective in this. Therefore, always use corner pin data if you have shear or perspective motion in your shot.

What do you mean with “corner pin doesn’t work”?
Have you tried my script MochaImport to generate the corner pin?

If nothing else works, I would create a stabilized precomp, as shown in this tutorial, and place the text inside the precomp. In the precomp the ridge should be perfectly fixed. If your track is not perfect and the ridge is not fixed, you could move the text in the precomp to match the (hopefully minimal) movement of the rigde to fix the last imperfections.

yes I am using that script.

Every time I use corner pin it scales down my text, makes it tiny.

I’ve been setting my surface about the size of my text but how should I set my surface?

The surface should cover the entire composition. You can make that by using the “align surface” button.
Maybe you also need to precomp your text-layer.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help, I was aligning my surface incorrectly.
