Mistlands online fantasy RPG looking for artists (3D/2D).

Mistlands
Mistlands is an opensource online role playing game which we have been working on for about 1½ year. Our goal is to create an role playing game in which a group of adventures can connect to a server and play, like an ordinary group of roleplayers meet to play a campain. Player interaction is the keyword in Mistlands. We are also aiming to get a strong mod community for the game. We have therefore powerful editing tools and about everything in the game is and can be scripted. It should be possible for anyone to create his own world/campain and set up a server on which others can play. The game engine works in both Linux and Windows, and has been developed by ourselves during the last 3 years or so.

We have divided the project in smaller parts, to get it playable so we can test it soner. Right now we are working on a more simple version of the game, a hack n slash version, with less roleplaying elements and more monster bashing and treasure hunting. This version of mistlands have the project name HOS and here is some words from the design document of Mistlands about HOS.

Vision
HOS is a Hack’n Slash like Diablo, Dungeon Siege and other rouge like games. You start in a town and go down and slash up monsters. The town has a weapon shop, magic shop and healer shop. There are a unlimited amount of monsters below the city. All cash one gets from killing monsters can be used to buy better stuff in the town.
The goal with HOS is to take parts of Mistlands and test them. The design of HOS is like Mistlands but most of it will be ignored and simplified. The important parts that need to be tested is:
Controll system for the character. How to move and look around.
Battle system for close combat/ranged combat.
Magic Combat/FX. For example how to target with spells. How the spell/magic works in the world is not important.
HOS is estimated to be completed at the end of 2005. When it is it will be released for free as opensource on our webpage.

Zero Point Gameplay
Zero Point Gameplay is the name of the team working on Mistlands and there are currently five people working on this project. Most of us has multiple tasks. Zero Point Gameplay is not a real company but a group of people that work together as a team to make a game and create things that they can use as worksamples when the try to find real life work.

Positions Available
We seek artists who knows some of the things listed below.

Modeling
Modelling world (buildings, trees), items (swords, tables) and characters (player characters, npc’s, monsters) for the game. The engine aims for fairly low polygon modells (400-800 tris characters for example) but the polycount is improved as the engine improves. Tools used are maya, blender or other tools that export to aliasfrontwaves .obj format.

Texturing
Creates textures that are used in the world, items and on the characters. Can also be assigned to texture other peoples modells but we would prefer people that can create a full model from start to finish by themselves. The engine uses the .tga or .bmp format.

Animating
Animations are used on the characters and monsters in the game and the exporter for animations only work in maya right now.

Concept art
Will create images that help share the vision of the design of the game and game world to the other team members and also create drawings that the modellers use as guides to create the models. This will often be in the form of sketch like b/w and sometimes colored images.

The quality and style of the graphics we want is something like this:

Pay
Since this is a opensource project, it means there is no pay for anyone. But if you are interested in getting a good portfolio, gaining some experience, and working with a serious hardworking team on a playable game, you are probably interested anyway.

How to Apply / Get more information
If you are interested, contact us with a description of yourself, your past experience with game development and SAMPLES of your work. The best is if you have a website where we can look at it or download it from. Please do not mail us megs of movies/images as it would flood our mailbox and things you send might be lost.
