Oh well, here’s where I was on the 1st pass…

Oh well, let me try to find another easy one to get my feet wet with. I might try the ones beside these, I just don’t want to pick one too hard and waste your time :wink:

Sorry for the confusion. I tried to update the progress site a few days ago, but I see that it failed…
Just keep this mesh that you have now, in case the other guy doesn’t finish his building. And I think that you won’t waste my time by doing the buildings next to them :wink: (and it won’t be a waste of your own time either :stuck_out_tongue: )

I decided to pretty much redo gate-1 because it didn’t look good to me. I started with the top of the towers. This took only about 1/2hour so the whole gate won’t take that long as I only have to do half then mirror;) .

Yeah, I see those now, Oh well his looks pretty good so I’ll try the ones next to it as you suggested. Mine where not finished yet so I’ll take it as practice :wink: Hey you can’t keep the project site up to the minute updated, so I did not mean it in a mean way. It still looks great!

Side question here, I was watching LOTR:ROTK DVD to see the pictures of MT and I was wondering how do I take a screen shot of a DVD in win XP? Print Screen will not work, tried that. Any ideas? TIA all :slight_smile:

Hi, for extract a frame of the DVD you can use another player instead the windows media, fot example the “Power DVD XP”, it have the option to capture a frame to disk or to memory.

I was away for a weeks, i´m back withe the Withe tree, perhaps tomorrow could view a new WIP of it.

Thanks for the tip, AMoN-AMoK. I got that program, and it works.
Well, I finally finished (I think) 1-gate. I didn’t do any interior, but that can come later. I will now work on the doors for it which I have already started a bit. Here is the front and back pics. The poly count is 45.000 in case you wanted to know.

Hi my name is fasoft and i really love ur project.
although ive never actually modelled a detailed buildings i think im more than qualified to do so.
i like doing fantasy type LOTR stuff.

you are really welcome to join us. You can pick a building from the reference page and then post the ref here, so that we can have a look whether it’s already being modelled or not.

@Synthesizer:
A very nice WIP. I recieved the building. Some small things that I noticed:
-The large towers look a bit too square, they should have a little less depth.
-There are some smoothing errors in the mesh, mostly caused by adjacent faces that are in the same smoothing group, but are not alligned.
Maybe that you can take a look at that.

erm. could u choose the building u wnat me to model cause im not to sure which one i wnat to model :P. make it a challenging one, but not to complicated. i have alot of time on my hands so ill start with a more simpler model now but ill move onto more complicated ones in the future.

PS: am i allowed to use the models ive made in my portfolio?

I’ve attached an image with my post, pointing out two buildings that you could work on. You can also do the one with the red arrow. Someone started it months ago, but I’ve never heard anything from him since then (It was Mayafreak I think)

PS: am i allowed to use the models ive made in my portfolio?

Ok ill do one with the red arrow? must i do interiors? if so may i have some interior references and maybe a nice neat 2d drawing of front and side profile will be nice to work from.

PS: if you cant get those maybe a name of the building (if it has one) then i can google it :wink:

You don’t need to do the interior.

About the references, I don’t have much more usefull pictures of this building. You can google on 3-rf-06, but I can assure you that you won’t find much usefull stuff :stuck_out_tongue:
And I could make you some 2D drawings, but it would take me as much time as modelling it myself in the manner of speaking. And you could of coarse also do that yourself :wink:

@Pjanssen: What do you mean by “it should have less depth”? Do you mean less wide when you are looking at it straight on? I don’t think I can do much about the smoothing, it is an export problem and I dont know how to do normals in Max. Notice that there weren’t any flipped normals:thumbsup:

I made an attachement to show the two things I mean.
The first one isn’t a big problem, just something that caught my eye.
The second image shows the problem with the adjacent polygons that aren’t aligned. (right is the topview)
