Here’s a little update, another building (nearly) finished: the second gate.
It only needs some banners, I’m working on them now, but Simcloth doesn’t really want to coöperate…
17.000 tri’s so far.
I just want to say… I want to join you.
So what´s next?
I´m on hollydays in august, so I can start in the early days of September.
Thank´s in advance.
Hi joie,
I’m glad that you want to join!
If you can start at september it might be smart if we wait with picking buildings for you until you’re back and we know what has to be done then.
By the way, how did you reach this thread?
I’m just curious, because the Minas Tirith site got more than 575 mostly Spanish visitors today (!), but I couldn’t figure out where they were linked from…
Hi there people, I’m from Spain and sorry but my writed Inglish is terrible, but i wonder that we could understan us.
I´m interested in collaborate in the proyect, so if you want i spent my little free time on that. I worked in the virtual reconstruction of the Burgos´s Cathedral two years ago, with 3dsMax, it were at end about 60.000 polis, for a real time environment. Minas Tirith is the same… but a HUGE scale :bounce: .
So, I’m waiting for instructions boss!
@Maddness: I’m glad that you joined!
I’ve been watching your WIP’s and I’ve got some comments and tips:
-No offence, but it all looks a bit messy, not aligned. In 3dsmax there’s a tool called ‘view align’, with it you can align selected vertices or polies to a viewport. This is very usefull, so I would recommend that you search for a similar tool in lightwave too.
-The arcs also look a bit messed up. They are not really round. In max I use splines to model arcs and that works extremely good, and quick. So here I would also recommend that you look for a similar option in lightwave. That would help you in getting a better result and a better workflow.
-Watch the smoothing groups in the arcs!
-We are trying to model quite accurate to the movie, and I must honestly say that your model differs on some point from the refere nce a little too much…
For instance the extruded arc at the entrance of the right building, it’s extruded too far.
The arc above it isn’t an arc in you model. The windows above it are not high enough I think.
It are all quite minor things, but just have a look at them.
I hope that my critics don’t sound too harsh. And I’m also not saying that you’re doing bad, but it could be just a little better
Hey Hi;
It´s a good idea to choose my model in September and not before, it´s OK.
I reach this topic because of a thread posted at the spanish Alias MAYA user group at www.esmaya.com go there if you want to tell us something important.
Just let´s start modeling on September.
One more question…, I see that you don´t model the details like rocks or the walls, why is this?, are you planning instert that detail later in a displacement mapping or something?
Thank´s in advance.
Hi people, im from Spain and my English is veri bad, but i migth that we could undertand between us.
I want to work in this proyect, because i’m a LOTR fan.
I use 3dsmax, and two years ago i’id made the Burgos’s Cathedral for a real time virtual visit.
I’m waiting for new instructions boss.
no problem. I was just trying to keep my tri count down as low as possible, also, i was trying to make the structures out of one continuous box, instead of boolean. I’ll rework those structures.
it could take me some time, since i’m about to be gone for then next few weeks
see you guys soon enough
@Joie: Thanks for the link. Now I at least understand where all the traffic comes from
About the details in the walls: we don’t model them. That would be a little too crazy
And it would kill my pc when I only think of the amount of polies that would become
@AMoN-AMoK: I don’t think that your english will be a big problem. As long as you don’t start speaking Spanish I think I’ll understand you
Well, you can pick a building somewhere in the city (please check if someone’s already working on it) and then you can post a message here to inform me, so I know who is doing what.
@Maddness: Ok, keep it going !
Well, lets start working. First, Id ask if someone is working on the White Tree, or if is there some kind of special plan on it, if isnt, I would like to model/texturize it.
If its not possible, I could make something of atrezzo or furniture, just to beginning with
something like chairs, balconies, flowerpots, buckets or similar
Otherwise, just tell me a free building to create, Im not sure which of them are free for me.
PS: Were now two people :), so, in terms of understanding between us a little better, my friend is writing this for me in english
or just trying to
saludos
me parece espectacular su proyecto y deseo participar. espero poder hacerlo, ya que quisiera ser uno de los representantes de colombia (sur america).
@AMoN-AMoK: If you could make the white tree that would be very cool!
I don’t know how the others think about it, but I think that it would be nicer to make the living version, after the king returned. I think we might consider making Minas Tirith a little bit merrier and nicer than in the movies when speaking of the stone<->foliage rate.
So that we might add fountains and trees on open spaces.
What do you guys think?
@cami2k: ehh que?
Please translate this to English, very few of us here speak or read Spanish.
Mmm, the models without any detail in the walls or rocks or something is a little wierd to me…, I accept not to model them but, they should be in some kind of displacement/normal map.
That´s my opinion.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention we will (of coarse) use bump mapping for those details.
Displacement is too heavy for a project of this scale, certainly for the realtime version.
Hello guys, im an spanish fan. 3D fanatic, Tolkien fanatic and Peter jackson fanatic.
When i saw your efforts in taking the white city of Gondor to the virtual world, i decided to join you inmediatelly. I have been doing amateur modeling from 10 years, my skills are a bit oxidated nowadays, but i promise i will do the imposible to match your amazing works.
I would like to start with bulding number 3-lb-02.
If that’s OK I’ll start as soon as you say.
Hello, i want to join your efforts in that particular project.
I would like to start with building 3-lb-02
I hope to be good enough for you.

Hi Senmonjin,
I’m glad that you want to join! (as I already said in my email)
You said in your email that you wanted to start with 2-lb-02, and in your post you say 3-lb-02. Which one do you mean?
Both are still to be modelled, so you can choose (or just model them both
)
By the way, which program do you use?
Sorry, i mismatch one of them. I want to model 2-lb-02 and 3-lf-02.Well, i’ll take the two of them to model :).
I 've been modeling for long with MAX, but now i’m training MAYA and i think i will use MAYA 6.
I know the final model must be in 3DS format, so ill look for a plugin to export.
Any sugestions accepted.

See ya.
Here’s an update from me: The Guesthouse (near the second gate, not seen in the movie…)
Inspired by a sketch of Alan Lee.
It’s almost finished, it just needs one more compartment on the front, left.
