Today I’ll answer all the emails and topicposts again. I will also let a few more people join.
I’ll select by the amount of experience they’ve got. So if you want to join, please show me some work you did.
@The_Wicked_Caveman: This is how I work with splines, when I want to have a window with a round top in a wall:
- I create an arc, 180degrees, perfectly round.
- Convert to editable spline
- Add the bottom part of the window shape. (create line)
- Make sure all vertices are welded.
- Create a rectangle, around the arc, with the size of the wall.
- Attach the rectangle to the arc (still ed. spline)
- Use an extrude modifier to give the wall surface and depth.
Instead of using the extrude modifier you can also use ‘convert to editable poly’. This will also give a surface to the wall, but not depth. Can also be usefull in some situations.
@Ariyoshi: Too bad that it doesn’t run very well on your pc. But I really don’t think that it’s a bad thing to create programs that can only be run on high-end pc’s now. Because within one year that technology will also be outdated, and then the software with it.
And I also don’t think that we’ll reach the 50.000.000 tri’s. Maybe 20.000.000, but not very much more I think (or hope
)
@Synthesizer: The 100meg will be enough for a while. And if we’ll get to the point where we need more, we’ll discuss it with the host.
@Admiral_Ra: You’ve got 5-rf-01. 3-rf-01 is already being done by someone else.
@Wowitch17: Here are some comments on your buildings. First one, 1-lf-15:
-It looks nice, but it seems like a topside only. There doesn’t seem to be a logical lower part on it.
-The pointy windows on the side look like a Gothic style. Minas Tirith is completely in a Roman/renaiscance style. So please, no pointy, only round windows. (this is for everyone working on this project)
-On the ref (for as far as visible), the building looks longer.
-There should be more detail on the building as a whole, some extra borders here and there, you know. Just take a look at other buildings and you’ll know what I mean.
The second one, 2-lb-01:
I don’t want to sound harsh, but this one just doesn’t look like it’s from MT. The style of the windows is good, but the rest looks a little off.
First the bottom part, when I look at the reference it isn’t that open.

The open style of your building makes it look almost fragile you know.
The top doesn’t seem to go that straight like on your building. It transforms from a rectangle to a round part, leading to the top.
I would really consider redoing this building. This isn’t because I think your building looks bad, but because I think that it doesn’t fit the MT style.
@Konstrukt: Yeah it will all have to be uvwmapped unfortunately…
