Minas Tirith Project || Part 2

#2461

A comment that I do have on your section is that it somehow looks a bit ‘western’ to me, especially the render with the building with the ‘veranda’

Hehe, well, actually i was planning on adding a market place in the first open space and in the second a fountain or statue. The wheel in the ‘veranda’ (btw that building was in the file) makes it also a lot more western like.

Perhaps it’d be a good idea if you would work on the textures together with the other texture guys? Or perhaps you could work on making some foliage and tree ‘props’, looking at how great it looked on your WIPs.

Well i have no problem helping with the textures, but only after you guys have drawn some final conclusions.

PS: Not so much action arround here.:frowning:

#2462

That would be nice to have your input…still waiting to hear from you about your suggestions details and a look at the texture sheets to see what we can adopt from it.

Also waiting to hear from Pier re ideas to recruit more texture helpers.

#2463

Hi all, I will use the fact that I’m in northern Italy right now to make some photos for texture work… as soon as the weather will get better (today it’s raining so I started modeling, didn’t do much but here’s the WIP: building next to gate).

As for decisions to take on texture resolution and detail… well, I’d be better if you draw final conclusions without me- got little experience in that subject.

#2464

Hi Kope

Wish you good luck in finding some super awesome textures

Dont zoooooooooooooom out to wide, in my experience (from roma) a medium “position” is already enough ( depends of course on the lense ) otherwise the lense distortion gives to much trouble.

I am looking forward to see your images

have a nice trip

#2465

Look forward to seeing your pics Kope.

Re texture decisions, Basic parameters are layed out for us by the programmer end, but I was hoping to see what ideas I could adopt from Kricket’s suggestions…detail maps for instance was a good idea, but I am not sure if he meant the kind of “detail” maps I am thinking he was talking about…or if the engine even handles fade in LOD on textures.
Either way he seems MUM on any discussion for now. :hmm:

PJanssen- did you get my email re recruiting idea? thnx :wip:

#2466

Hi kope, where are you exactly? Come to visit Bolzano, near Oesterreich: there are a lot of castles, at least 10 around the city, and many others that are reachable in no more than an hour… a lot of resources to use for minas tirith!

#2467

Look at how high poly this is:

#2468

Hmm yes?

@sd: sorry for not having replied yet. I did read the mail and have thought about it. Will reply asap.

To all teammembers:
Please read and comment to this thread on the team forum: http://forum.minastirithproject.com/index.php?action=vthread&forum=4&topic=74

Thanks.

#2470

Thanks Pier…overll, sounds logical to step through the stages as outlined.

Not sure you want particulars discussed in here, so other comments in TeamForum.

#2471

@Marlon John:
Here are some comments on the first WIP you posted. It’s a good start, but you’ll have to add more detail. I’ve added some suggestions:

Later today I’ll gather some objects that you can use too.

#2472

Glad you did this Pjanssen. I will comment on the planning on the private forum. After all is going to be settled i guess you will make an announcement to the public? What changes do you expect in the near future regarding the team? You know there is need of man power

#2473

Thanks!

After all is going to be settled i guess you will make an announcement to the public?
Yes.

What changes do you expect in the near future regarding the team? You know there is need of man power

Yes I am aware of this. It’s hard to find skilled people though. I must admit that I haven’t really been recruiting actively in the last half year or so, only letting people come on the team when they asked.
I really hope to get some more good and motivated people on board soon. How this is to be achieved…I don’t know yet.

#2474

People need eye candy and propaganda. More visual wips on this thread, and since the collabs aren’t really that visited maybe someone should post their wips in the 3d wip forum, where there are many viewing.Anyway, poeple don’t come where they don’t see potential, so make them see cause there is.

#2475

Heres an update on the things i needed fixing … render isnt that great, plus also might re-size a few windows. comments, crits welcome

#2476

That’s quite an improvement indeed
I think that you could put in some more detail though, like ledges on the top and bottom. Also, try playing with the relative window sizes and their width/height ratio. I think that you can improve a bit there as well.

Keep up the good work!

@Kriket_Guy: Yes that’s true. One of the urgently needed things is a new website on which to publicate the eye candy and news. There’s quite a bit of work to do there though.

#2477

There’s quite a bit of work to do there though.

Just make something basic to start with (why not carry on with the old site?) and if things go well implement new features to the site on the road.

#2478

The current site is seriously outdated. Updating it is really a pain due to the rather messy code.
And the design doesn’t really do justice to the quality aims for this project in my opinion.

So if there are going to be changes to it, it should be a complete redo. I can provide some php code for this, like for the admin section, but it will at least need some work. Perhaps Emiel can provide some code too, but it will all be bits and pieces.
Next to that a new design will be needed.

#2479

It’s kind of much to expect you to redo the website PJanssen/Emiel…You guys are needed in the main programming work and team direction/leadership.

Getting the work defined and underway is the MOST important item right now and is being addressed by PJanssen in the “stages” outline.

Once we have WIPS that show good activity the rest will come. :wip:

#2480

Emiel isn’t really on the team anymore. He’s too busy with other things.
I am indeed too busy with other things too (both on MT and personal things). But perhaps I can come up with something in between things, with some help from others.

By the way, softdistortion suggested introducing a departmental organisation, which is something I complete agree with, as long as there are good department leads. Softdistortion will be texture lead.
I’m looking for a model lead, someone who can oversee the modeling proces and quality. Perhaps also putting the models together in the city.
