WOW! simply amazing. The level of modeling and texturing is incredible. Awesome work. Are you going to use Octane to render this one too?
MI-24 - A Russian Aviation Icon
ACantarel, I wanted to ask: what size of textures (in pixels) do you use on this model?
@nickmarshallvfx: Hehe thanks! Rusted thing of beauty!
@mister3d: Which is also the curse here
@Solomon: Thanks an no Octane anymore. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit into the graphic card’s memory anymore so back to Vray.
@PunkT34: So far it is using seven 8192x8192 textures and one 4096x4096 for the tail rotor.
Being sick is the perfect excuse for doing pointless renders :arteest:
Hatchoo!
Andre
It looks like you didn’t unpremultiply your copter (judging by black contour around it, especially around it’s blades). Other than that - just gorgeous!
awesome image…even if it’s still WIP…
most of all i love the flying frog
will try to incorporate this in my next image too
cheers
Oli
@Ultrasonic: Thanks and yeah haha that frog is going to be everywhere in my stuff from now on
Got me some reference stuff from the local surplus store. Modeling all the little bits and pieces now to use them as brushes later.
Configuration is a bit different than the pilot reference posted earlier but who cares. All modular so stuff can be moved around.
Cheers

Found some time on the weekend to do two more 8K textures for the two long horizontal panels in the back with the East Germany decal.
Click on image for 4K render
The cockpit glass will look less green once there’s not a black background anymore.
Of course the wing texture on the right wing is just flipped right now.
Hope you like it!
Cheers

It is looking great  . How long are the renders taking with those high res textures, and what are you doing to speed them up? I know computer hardware is a big deal for it. Did you feel like you had to make those PC upgrades you talked about in your thread for this project? I am also curious about where you got those nice HDRI images you have been using. Do you buy them online somewhere or did you make them yourself? Sorry about all these questions, but I am really curios as I am working on completing my old An-225 model, I started a while ago. And it is a huge plane. I am simply trying to figure out what I will face when it comes to texturing and doing some high res bump maps for example. I am afraid my PC won’t handle even multiple 4k maps, and the machines they have in my school are even worse
. I am really interested if you have any thoughts on that. Thanks in advance!
@AlexSarakapudaff: Thanks! Hmm render time depends on the angle but right now a 4K render is about 1 hour to 1 hour 20min with 3d motion blur and brute force GI. The HD renders are much faster. I made my PC upgrades just for general use, not for this project specifically. The HDRIs I am using are just from the sIBL library which is for free online. I just bumped up the sundisk to get the key right of the domelight. Don;t worry so much about the amount of high res textures for your Antonov. You can always convert them to tiled EXRs so only what’s needed inside the bucket for rendering gets loaded. You don’t have any limits that way. Funny that you’re working on an AN225. We built it for our sequences on “2012”. Let me know how it goes!
@AlexSarakapudaff: You’re welcome
@Skyraider3D: Thanks bud, glad you like it!
@xtrm3d: Nu klaa! Vorwärts immer, rückwärts nimmer!
Greetings to her!
Remodeled all canopy glass parts, UV-ed them neatly and started putting in the silicone borders where the glass hits the struts to break up the clean line.
I threw a lot of dirt onto the canopy glass as well as this guy is in service for a while
I can easily tone that up or down with a curve.
Hope you like it!
Cheers
Andre
