Merging multiple animated objects into 1

I have been working on a game project for a while and am almost at the point where I can start loading all the art assets into the game engine (UDK from Epic). For this game, I have two particular animated structures that make use of multiple animated objects.

For instance, one of these objects is an elevator using a crane to operate the “cage” of the elevator. Due to the setting of the game, it is all very lowtech, using a wooden set of gears and chains. This in turn has as a major downside that there are quite a few objects involved in the animation; I think easily about 100 of them.

Now, exporting these and importing them into the engine (as well as making them animate) is going to be a major pain. So, in order to ease things up, I was wondering whether it is possible to make these objects into one giant object while keeping the individual animations of each object intact.
