Mental Ray volumetric light Artifacts

Hey Guys, I’ve been struggling with this for almost a week now. I’m experimenting with making god rays in Maya, I created a simple sphere and positioned a spotlight over it, I then created a volume cube primitive, scaled it up to cover the scene and rendered, and this is what I got.

Any idea how to get rid of these light rings and get the effect right ?
I’m using Maya 2015.

Use light fog in the spot light.
Go to the coneShape, turn on volume samples override and set the override to 10. Then increase the density in the light fog.

Or if you want to keep the volume box, increase the volume samples for the box shape.
