mental ray - render passes not working, Maya 2012?

I’m having a strange issue with a particular scene where I can’t output any render passes but the Master Beauty. I’m still using Maya 2012. It seems like I’m using the same workflow as always, and it works in a blank scene just fine (CameraDepth). I’m using .tiff 32-bit files for output, as opposed to .exr files here.

It usually spits out the pass into a folder with the pass name, and I’m getting a Master Beauty folder and image which is proper, but no CameraDepth folder or image is created?

Has anyone else ran into this, or maybe knows where I may have went wrong?

Are you using the “passes” version of mia_material_x? I had this same problem and I fixed it once I realized that I had forgotten to upgrage the mia_material_x to mia_material_x_passes in the Attribute Editor.

Yeah, I’m using the x_p shader on everything that needs it. But even if I wasn’t, it should still create the proper folder and render an image, just the image would either be empty or inaccurate. That’s what’s weird about this one, but much of the scene was imported from an old Maya 2009 scene…

So I exported it as a Maya 2012 scene and imported it into a blank scene in which I’d already had the Depth pass working properly, and that worked fine. Must have been some holdover of broken-ness from the Maya 2009 scene. Kind of a pain, but it’s fine now!

I’ll leave this workaround up for posterity.
